PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Mark E. Holcomb was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. After visiting a college roommate from Tacoma, he fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. In 1987, Mark had his first interview following law school with Morton McGoldrick, and accepted the position, allowing him to relocate to Pierce County, Washington. Mark is a believer in Tacoma’s motto: “the City of Destiny.”

Mark is a shareholder and current president at Morton McGoldrick, with over 33 years of experience in the local community. His practice focuses on real estate transactions involving large commercial and residential properties, formation and creation of condominiums, including FHA, FMAC, and VA approvals, obtaining land use approvals and permits from federal, state, and local government agencies, including approvals for wetlands, shoreline modifications, and environmental issues. Mark serves as business and corporate counsel and is experienced in assisting clients in both the sale and purchase of existing businesses, establishing asset protection and risk reduction through the formation of corporations, limited liability companies, and limited partnerships, and drafting buy-sell, confidentiality and non-competition agreements. He has broad experience in structuring, drafting, negotiating, reviewing and settling contracts, and provides counsel to developers and private lenders in complex purchase and loan transactions, including establishment of proper collateral and security in personal and/or real property. Mark’s experience includes negotiations and drafting of multi-million dollar loans involving collateral at the local, national, and international level, with significant experience in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loans for commercial projects, including the loan defeasance process. He also provides counsel to individuals and families on general estate planning issues, including preservation of family-owned businesses, and succession of ownership. Finally, Mark is experienced in probating of simple and complex estates, and serves as trustee of family trusts for many clients at their request.

EDUCATION

Mark attended Wabash College and graduated with a B.S. in History and Psychology in 1984. Mark then studied law at Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana and received his J.D. in 1987.

PERSONAL

Mark and his wife Wendy have been married for over 32 years, and have three children, Anna, Joseph and Patrick. Mark and Wendy enjoy many outdoor activities in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and volunteer together and separately for special causes in the community.
